The game is now A Total War Saga: FALL OF THE SAMURAI on Steam, and existing owners of the game will receive all DLC faction packs as a free gift, with the exception of the Blood Pack, imminently.Īs the press release reads, FALL OF THE SAMURAI has always encapsulated what Creative Assembly believe a Saga title should aspire to in terms of their size and scope. Obviously, Shogun 2 is a game, but this has taken it much too far in the gamey-direction, to the point where it breaks the immersion and sense of authenticity to me.Creative Assembly has announced that Total War: SHOGUN II – Fall of the Samurai has just joined the Total War Saga family.

Meanwhile, in Shogun 2, all the generals are completely identical blank slates whose progression is 100% predictable and who gain absolutely no useful traits from doing anything other than leading armies in combat (well, and I guess sitting in cities makes them get increasingly drunken and womanizing, since apparently those are the only two things they do when not in the field), which gives you bizzare, immersion-breaking situations where to get good civil administrators you need to have them lead armies in combat. They have many of a very large and diverse list of slightly random (and often funny) retinues and character traits, which makes them all fairly unique, and their traits depend on what they do, and it takes a non-trivial amount of time and effort to turn your generals into the sorts of characters you want them to be, assuming you can do it at all. The Total War: Shogun 2 Sengoku Jidai Unit Pack adds 10 new elite units for use across the different game modes of Total War: Shogun 2. Shogun 2 was still a bit better, in that it was the peak of the "oldschool" Total War. Well, there was also the useless and vague family tree system. Leave it to the AI to never leave the control point of a town and let the player waste 95% of its army using archers alone. Pretty much the only real flaw of Rome 2 was the abysmal siege AI.

This is pretty much how it is in Rome 2 and I loved it. All you could do in a real battle is reinforce failing units or use your cavalry to flank the enemies that were already locked in combat.

As a commander, you couldn't order a specific unit to just pull back out of a melee fight, or you may have a rout on your hands, not to mention that half of them wouldn't hear the order over the sound of battle. Shogun 2 TW: American Civil War mod (0.1b Pre-Alpha) Report. I remember people were bashing the fact that units that entered combat were quickly losing formations, which is another realistic thing. Nobody would give command of 5-10k soldiers to a mere captain, as it was happening in every single TW game before Rome 2. It was definitely more realistic than the previous games. It had and still has its flaws, but I liked the overall direction of the changes.
